Sarah Harper, 24, has grown up with us. A Clear Creek patient since 2002, she has literally spent half her life rotating in and out of our chairs. What a treat it’s been to watch this energetic young woman take off and come into her own.
A native of Bremerton, Wash., Harper moved to Florida last June to take an internship at Disney World,
after graduating from Western Washington University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. But that hasn’t stopped her from flying cross-country – every six months – to visit us for regular exams and cleanings.
“I’ve been seeing Dr. Beck and Dr. Haws since they were in Old Town Silverdale, and then followed them to the other side of town when they opened their own practice,” she said emphatically. “These are the only dentists I trust in my mouth and with any procedures I need. They’ve become like extended family and I wouldn’t want to go to anyone else!”
While working as a cast member, at the Contemporary Resort in Orlando, Harper was often the first Disney face visitors would see. “I would greet guests as they were first coming in off a bus or opening their car door,” Harper said. “It was my job to start their vacation on a high note and make sure their first impressions and conversations were lively and cheerful from the start. Smiling was definitely part of the job!”
So this gal, with a grin as wide as the Cheshire Cat, delivered a sunny disposition she wasn’t afraid to flaunt. “I love people! And so much of engaging others comes with the confidence of your smile,” she said. “It’s important to me to be clean and healthy in all parts of my life. It makes me feel good when I’ve fully taken care of myself. I have more self-esteem and assurance to interact.”
Harper reflected on an August day when she was dripping with sticky sweat in the humid, upper 90-degree heat. “I looked down, and this little girl turned to her mom and asked if I was a princess,” Harper said. “Princesses just have that gleam and I guess maybe she saw it in my smile, because I certainly wouldn’t have looked the part otherwise.” A bit of the magic continued when she met and captivated Andy, a fellow undergraduate.
With her Disney experience just recently complete, Harper is now working to make her own dreams come true. “I have moved closer to the University of Central Florida, where I plan to pursue my master’s degree. My goal is to ultimately work in Human Resources, where I can continue to serve people.”
As for Andy, “he’s a BIG part of my life!” And that’s something worth smiling about, too.
